One Home Energy Audit, a lifetime of lower energy costs.

If you book a Home Energy Audit with us, chances are we’ll save you between $500 - $2000 within ten minutes of walking in your front door.

And that’s just for starters…. Imagine what we can do in a two-hour Home Energy Audit?

So, how does a Home Energy Audit work..?

There are two parts to our service.

Home Energy Audit

We’ll analyse your power usage, examine your home and find out where it’s letting you down in terms of energy efficiency.

Energy Efficiency Advice

Next, we’ll provide detailed advice on how to improve the energy efficiency of your home, along with an Action Plan to work your way through.

Generally there are lots of quick and easy steps, and a few big ticket items to address when you have the funds to do so.

So, what does a Home Energy Audit involve?

From you, very little, all you have to do is contact us, and we’ll swing into action.

We’ll drill down to 15 minute blocks and examine two years of your energy use.

Checking the difference between general supply and controlled loads, identifying standby power usage too. We’ll analyse when the power is being used, from which source and for what reasons. All of this provides a detailed picture of your daily usage trends and peak energy demands, and it’s all done before we arrive at your home.

Energy Efficiency Advice
On the day of your Home Energy Audit we’ll explain everything we’ve discovered, and show you how it appears on your electricity, gas and water bills. Then we’ll save you money by mapping your energy needs at specific times of the day and the year, to the most cost-effective power source available. We’ll also come prepared with an energy bill comparison, showing you how to save instantly.

The sun, shading, insulation, ventilation and building envelope leakage all have an effect on your home’s energy efficiency, so now we’ll inspect the following.

Insulation
Even if you have insulation already, just a 10% gap can make it almost worthless, so we’ll check the quality of insulation coverage in the roof, and also under the floor if appropriate.

Building Envelope
Gaps in the building envelope account for heat loss in the winter, and reduced cooling capacity in the summer, so we’ll use a sophisticated thermal imaging camera to help identify any leaks in your home.

Passive Design & Shading
Effective shading and airflow solutions can also help with energy efficiency, so we’ll look
at the existing layout of the house, searching for opportunities to introduce passive design solutions.

Windows
The type of windows you have, along with their curtains and dressings affects ventilation, passive colling and solar heating, so we’ll review all of that along with the type of glazing, and any window coverage too.

It’s like wearing a sweater that’s full of holes. You don’t need to be an energy efficiency expert to figure out what’s going to happen there...

Next, we’ll turn our attention to your systems and appliances, assessing their efficiency, age, usage and functionality. Once again, we’re looking for opportunities to reduce your costs, and increase your energy efficiency in the following areas.

  • Hot water systems

  • Heating and cooling systems

  • Kitchen and laundry appliances

  • Lighting

  • Pool equipment

  • Any other major appliances

We’ll also bring you up to date with all the latest rebates and finance opportunities that make it even more cost effective, to become more energy efficient.

Finally, we’ll sit down and bring it all together. Showing you where there are opportunities for improvement in energy efficiency, providing guidance on how to achieve them, and relating it all back to the three main goals of your Home Energy Audit.

We’ll compile all the information into a comprehensive report, and send it to you along with a detailed Action Plan to make your home more energy efficient. Just work your way through the list, and if you need any additional support or guidance give us a call, and I’m sure we’ll be able to help.

And that’s it!

Home Energy Audit vs Residential Efficiency Scorecard

The difference between the two services is that the Residential Efficiency Scorecard gives you a rating, and will soon be standardised across the country, while the Home Energy Audit goes into a lot more detail on lowering your costs, carbon emissions and increasing your comfort.

It really depends on your reasons for examining the energy efficiency of your home, however if you’re struggling to make up your mind, we can combine the two into one complete service.
